Our Support Services volunteers provide crucial administrative or program support for Lifelong. We would love to have you join us.

Front Desk
Be the face of Lifelong as you greet and direct guests and answer all incoming phone calls into the agency.

Departmental Support
Work with staff in client services, development, education, government affairs or volunteer services.

Thrift Store
Sort donations, tag and organize items, assist customers or test electronic equipment in our thrift store.

Misc. Project Volunteers
Often we have special projects that require volunteers. These are perfect for individuals, students and groups.

Volunteer Job Descriptions

Front Desk Volunteer (Seneca) 
Commitment: 4 hours per week, 6 months minimum
Report to: Client Services Programs Coordinator
Basic Function: Greet and assist visitors, handle all incoming calls, provide resources 
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Answer telephones and route calls
• Greet clients, volunteers, and visitors, directing them appropriately
• Assist with administrative projects as needed
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Punctuality and reliability
• Comfortable working with people of varying backgrounds, including race/ethnicity, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status
• Ability to handle a multi-line phone
• Ability to work calmly under stress
• Strong communication skills
• Ability to organize and work independently
• Attention to detail
• Flexibility and ability to think creatively

Front Desk Volunteer (Annex)
Commitment: 2 hours per week for 6 months
Report to: Volunteer Coordinator
Basic Function: Handle in-coming calls, take accurate messages, and greet visitors
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Answer telephones and route calls
• Take accurate and detailed messages
• Provide inter-office mail support between both administrative offices once per scheduled visit
• Greet clients, volunteers, and visitors, directing them appropriately
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Ability to handle a multi-line phone
• Strong communication skills
• Ability to organize and work independently
• Detail oriented
• Ability to be flexible regarding tasks
• Must be reliable and prompt
• Have a sense of humor
• Comfortable working with people of varying socioeconomic backgrounds, sexual orientations and racial diversity

Departmental Support

Development/Events Assistant
Commitment: 2 hours per week for 6 months
Report to: Event Coordinator/Development Coordinator
Basic Function: Help maintain information on database
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Update addresses, phone numbers, email addresses and other information as needed
• Add new names to the database with the appropriate codes
• Assist staff with data clean-up projects
• Generate mail merges as directed
• Assist with mailings or other development office projects
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Attention to detail, organizational skills
• Ability to understand directions and independently follow through with assigned task
• Computer skills (MS Office products and database products such as Raiser's Edge 7.1)
• Comfortable working with people of varying socioeconomic backgrounds, sexual orientations and racial diversity

Development Intern
Commitment: 10-15 hours per week, 3 month minimum
Report to: Event Coordinator/Development Coordinator
Basic Function: Assist with general administrative duties as well as fundraising event production
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Play a pivotal role in securing and tracking donations.
• Assist in the organization and implementation of special events and mailings
• Assist with general correspondence, filing, phone calls, and other administrative functions as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Successful candidate will be well organized and detail oriented
• Office and computer experience preferred
• Database management experience a plus
• Ability to maintain high standards of agency donor and volunteer confidentiality
• Comfortable working with people of varying socioeconomic backgrounds, sexual orientations and racial diversity

Government Affairs Intern
Commitment: 10 hours per week, January – April commitment (during the legislative session)
Report to: Legislative Affairs
Basic Function: Assist with organization of Public Policy materials and media relations
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Assist department in tracking state and national legislation relating to HIV/AIDS care and services via the Internet and publications.
• Assist with the production of monthly Community Action Alerts
• Assist with the coordination of the HIV/AIDS Lobby day in Olympia
• Maintain political press clippings relating to the Legislative session and HIV/AIDS
• Assist in communication with constituents and members of our statewide grassroots action network
• Faxing, data entry, filing, copying, phone calls and other duties as assigned
Qualifications/Interest:
• Working towards a Political Science, Sociology, Communications or related degree.
• Basic knowledge about the progression and treatment of HIV/AIDS
• Strong knowledge of computer programs, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and the Internet
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Comfortable working with people of varying socioeconomic backgrounds, sexual orientations and racial diversity

Government Affairs Volunteer
Commitment: 3-6 hours per week, 3 month minimum
Report to: Legislative Affairs
Basic Function: Assist with organization of Public Policy materials and media relations
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Internet research
• Assist with production of monthly Community Action Alerts
• Maintain political press clippings relating to the public policy and HIV/AIDS

Volunteer Department Support
Commitment: 4-8 hours per week, 3 month minimum
Report to: Volunteer Services Coordinator
Basic Function: To provide basic support to the Volunteer Services Department
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Assist with administrative tasks
• Assist with data management, scheduling, and volunteer training
• Assist with the tracking of assignments and monthly volunteer hours
• Other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Computer skills (MS Office products and database products such as Raiser's Edge 7.1)
• Good communication skills
• Attention to detail
• Comfortable working with people of varying socioeconomic backgrounds, sexual orientations and racial diversity

'That Thursday Thing' Team Lead
Commitment: 4 hours per week, 6 month minimum, Thursday 4:00-7:00 pm
Volunteers must be 18 years or older
Report to: Volunteer Coordinator
Basic Function: Assist in the coordination and operation of tasks during 'That Thursday Thing'
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Arrive at 3:30pm to set up volunteer work room and arrange tasks
• Put up appropriate signage and put out sign-in sheet
• Assist Volunteer Coordinator to oversee the completion of projects
• Welcome volunteers and assist in orienting new volunteers
• Other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Ability to instruct others and monitor their work
• Ability to handle multiple tasks
• Basic computer skills a plus
• Good communication skills and attention to detail
• Comfortable working with people of varying socioeconomic backgrounds, sexual orientations and racial diversity

Will Call Volunteer
Commitment: 2-4 hours per week, 6 month minimum
Volunteers must be 18 years or older
Report to: Care Coordinator
Basic Function: Operate Will Call (free tickets to entertainment venues) for people living with HIV/AIDS
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Input event information in Excel worksheet
• List events on Will Call hotline
• Take reservations from hotline
• Call back clients for sold out events
• Distribute tickets to clients at Will Call table
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Knowledge of Excel a plus
• Familiarity and/or interest in current theatre/arts productions
• Must possess good organizational skills
• Must be prompt and reliable
• Must be willing to maintain good communication with Care Coordinator
• Must be articulate and comfortable speaking on the telephone
• Must be familiar with Lifelong AIDS Alliance facts, mission statement, etc.
• Comfortable working with people of varying socioeconomic backgrounds, sexual orientations and racial diversity

Thrift Store Volunteer
Commitment: 2-4 hours per week, 6 month minimum
Volunteers must be 16 years or older
Report to: Thrift Store Manager
Basic Function: Work at Lifelong Thrift Store in any of a variety of functions from sorting to vacuuming
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Sort and tag donations
• Light cleaning (dusting, sweeping, breaking down boxes, throwing trash away, etc.)
• Work with thrift store staff to keep the stores professional and comfortable
• Test electronics/appliances
• Display merchandise
• Call store manager when missing a shift
• Must give at least two weeks notice for vacation/leave of absence
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Must possess good organizational and communication skills
• Must be prompt and reliable
• Ability to lift at least 40 lbs 
• Ability to work as an effective team member
