For Immediate Release
Saturday, June 27, 2009, is National HIV Testing Awareness Day
Lifelong AIDS Alliance encourages everyone to take the opportunity to get tested and know your status.
Seattle, Washington – The Center for Disease Control estimates that one out of five people in the United States don’t know their HIV status. Saturday, June 27, 2009 is a nationally-recognized awareness day intended to motivate people to go out and get tested, and help reduce stigma around HIV and HIV testing.
Want to find a testing center near you? Text your zip code to “KNOWIT” (566948) and a text message will be sent to your phone with nearby addresses for where to get tested. You can also visit www.HIVTest.org, www.AIDS.gov, and www.nineandahalfminutes.org for more information about National HIV Testing Awareness Day and testing locations near you.
Looking for somewhere to get tested in Seattle? Try the Public Health STD Clinic at Harborview Medical Center (325 9th Ave, Ground Floor of the East Clinic Wing) at 206-744-3590 or the Gay City Health Project (511 E. Pike St.) at 206-860-6969.
Lifelong AIDS Alliance is committed to preventing the spread of HIV, and to providing practical support services and advocating for those whose lives are affected by HIV and AIDS. Lifelong is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
